Jessica Magaldi is a native of Brooklyn and has been working with clay since just before the turn of the millennium. She draws creative and intellectual inspiration both from New York City and from traveling far from home. In her travels, she finds interest or beauty in things that might strike others as unremarkable, like how the shape of a grain silo on a barn on an Iowa farm compares to a watertower found on the roof of a building in New York City – how both are simple and yet perfectly suited to their functions. This resonates in her work as she concentrates on matching form to function and finding beauty in the simplicity of a well-designed pot.
