nyc manhole cover coaster set, 1st edition

Includes four cast iron beverage coasters-each with a distinctive design: NYC Electric Company, NYC Bureau of Sewers, NYC Dept of Public Works and NYC Communications.

Each coaster is 4 inches in diameter, 3/16" thick, weighs approximately 9 ounces; is shellac sealed and bottom padded with black felt. Each coaster set is packed in an attractive draw string pouch. Slight imperfections in the casts are not unusual due to the handcrafted process.

This 1st edition set is sold exclusively as a set of 4 designs.

The NYC coaster collection was proudly poured by the Cleveland Foundry in Tennessee, U.S.A.. The coaster mold making method is 17th century whereas the only modern attribute is the furnace used for the melting of the iron. Sand is hand shoveled into the overhead, and a lever releases the sand into the flask. It doesn’t get more authentic than that these days.
